High Protein Diets And Why
They Will Work
By The Hoosier Diet Team
If you want to lose fat, one of the key
ingredients you will have to add to your daily caloric intake
plan is proteins. High protein diets can work for you if
you combine them with exercise. So don’t think that you can
leave this element out of your program as every successful diet
includes exercise. There are two reasons why using a high
protein diet will work for you.
First, protein is the key ingredient to building muscle.
If you have a lot of protein in your diet you will speed up
your metabolism and give your body the fuel it will need to
burn fat and build muscle, which is
ultimately what you are trying to do whenever you start
attempting to lose weight. You are going to need
energy and muscle mass that can repair and strength itself
on a daily basis and if you have protein in your system this
will not be a problem. Some great foods to eat to up
your protein levels are:
Poultry
Lean red meet
Any type of fish (knock yourself out seafood lovers!)
Egg whites
Cottage cheese
Yogurt
Tofu
Soy beans
Pumpkin seeds
Second, the reason why this type of diet works so well is
because they do not deprive your body of any essential food
group. Oftentimes people choose diets that will leave out
one element of the food triangle, usually carbs or fats.
However, your body needs all three elements or it will go into
starvation mode and start lowering your metabolism.
High protein diets are aimed at increasing your protein intake
which will help you cut down on carbs and saturated fats
because high protein foods do not contain these belly busting
elements, but still allows you to have some of them in your
diet so you are never actually depriving your body of any
needed nutrient.
You may be wondering now how much protein is enough to make
high protein diets work for you, well roughly one gram per your
total body weight. Now granted, even if you consume the
highest source of protein, usually fish or pumpkin seeds, you
are only looking at 22 grams of protein per serving. This
does not mean you should gorge yourself, but rather supplement
your meal with protein shakes and supplement pills to make sure
you keep your protein levels up to par. Being close is a
lot better than being way shy of your mark.
In order for high protein diets to work for you, you need to
know exactly when it is most important to be consuming high
levels of protein. You should have them for your
breakfast (to jumpstart your metabolism), after workout (your
body needs the protein to continue burning fat and repair muscle mass after
your exercising), and before you go to bed (so your
metabolism stays up while you are sleeping). If you want to
make full use of your protein diet, you should make sure
your highly concentrated meal or snack times contain
them.
